We would like to start a new series with this blog post, where we look a little behind the scenes of the providers of tantra massages or sensual massages. The aim is to introduce people who have been working in this field for a long time and talk about their experiences and work. One of the goals is to encourage newcomers to perhaps dare a visit or to arouse interest in pursuing this work themselves.
The first interview we did with Nancy, she works at Dahar's Temple in Bubikon near Zurich/Switzerland.
Don (Massage123): Hi Nancy, why don't you start by telling us how you got started and got into Tantra massages...?
Nancy: I'd love to. In early 2018, I attended an "open house" on tantra massage with my best friend. After about 20 minutes, my friend said goodbye saying "This is not for me. I'm leaving." My response to that was "I'm never leaving". And then everything took its course very quickly. That evening felt like coming home, coming back to what I want to give to the world.
What happened next, did you open your own studio directly or work somewhere else?
The transition from education to profession was smooth. The first people who offered me money for my massages I received at home in a specially equipped massage room. But soon I felt the desire to work in a small team, in premises outside my private area. Then I met my partner Arun, who is also a tantric masseur. Together we started to offer 4-hand and couple massages. We are not only connected by love and our child, but also by a soul mission. Shortly after, we received an offer from Tina to work together at Dahar's Temple. I can hardly find words to describe my gratitude for this little love team that we are. Right now, I can't imagine a more beautiful place to be.
How do you continue your education?
I regularly attend classes and assist at workshops. It's a journey that I don't think will ever end.
How do you recover from your work? What is the antipole?
My work IS the antipole :) It lets me dive into an embodied world full of feeling, love, depth, deceleration and intimacy. Things that often come far too short in our fast-paced and hectic times. Otherwise, yoga, sauna sessions and warm baths are part of my preparation for the next massage session.
Every industry changes with the times, trends come and go. What changes are you currently seeing in your field?
I observe that tantra as well as tantric massages, but also other areas of spirituality are no longer what is attributed to only a small group of people. These areas are becoming more accessible, more public and also more and more young people are coming to our studio. More and more young people want to know what real intimacy and sexuality means, what loving touch and devotion feels like.... far away from what porn or others so often convey to us.
Another trend are the women who increasingly go to and benefit from tantric massage.
What do clients ask for most?
The most popular is the body-to-body massage. An experience with lots of warm oil and lots of body contact, skin on skin....
What bothers you the most?
Tantric massage means a clear distribution of roles. The client is the receiving part and may simply enjoy and observe what the touches trigger in his or her own body. My focus is 100% on the customer and on what I do. I give and serve. Mutual massages are not allowed, nor is kissing, intercourse or oral sex. It rarely happens, but it does happen that clients do not respect the boundaries despite preliminary discussion, nor do they ask, but simply become careless and encroaching. In case of doubt, we then stop the massages.
That is understandable. Mutual respect must be. Is it possible to say what the average age of the visitors is?
Is there an average? The age range is very broad, from 18 to 90, and every age is represented.
What about couple massages?
Couples massages make up the smallest part of the total massages. Couples often wish to "try something new". Also to feel a different skin than that of the partner, without having to open the relationship to the outside for this. Or they wish to improve their (sometimes fallen asleep) sexuality, they want to explore themselves more closely, experience something new and learn something new. And of course, many just want to enjoy and relax together. When a couple comes in for a massage, it is a very sacred space that we are privileged to enter. We always strive to be very respectful, mindful and sensitive in this space and to provide a beautiful experience for both people. Each couple also brings issues that may be touched upon. Each massage is also a learning experience.
Thank you Nancy for the interesting insights and conversation.
